Another week has sped by and I feel a little behind with things.
I was away in Edmonton this past week. Not for business, but to check out a concert that was circled on the calendar for over a year.
I heard rumblings almost two years ago that one of my favorite performing groups was preparing an homage to one of my niece's favorite performers.
When I saw tickets go on sale, I snagged enough for everyone to go. It was a no-brainer.
Fast forward to this week and we made the trek up to the provincial capital to sit back and enjoy the wonderment of one of the best (if not THE BEST) concerts I've ever seen.
The Michael Jackson Immortal Tour put on by the Cirque du Soleil troupe ended up being sensory overload. My eyes and ears couldn't keep up at times with everything that was going on. Note: this video does not do the performance justice. Everything.....EVERYTHING was spot on perfection.
From a rock solid live band to state of the art video board (and some amazing video editing) to the instantly identifyable 'Cirque' costumes to the performers (and performances) themselves. It was just awesome hearing some of MJ's hits filling an arena the likes of a generation ago.
Absolutely stunning.
If you're a fan of Michael Jackson or Cirque du Soleil.....I highly recommend this production.
Well, upon return to Calgary, I was invited to a screening of a documentary that I've had on the radar for a number of months.
Senna is the story of F1 legend Ayrton Senna. From his beginnings in F1 in 1984 to his domination of the racing sport (winning 3 World Championships) to his tragic death in 1994, this documentary has some incredible archive footage and some really insightful interviews.
Not knowing much at all about Senna before seeing the film, I enjoyed the doc even more as the learning curve was even greater. I was able to appreciate the movie on numerous levels.
Check it out if you get a chance.
Now, on to the mask.
A perfect choice for this month.
Jonas Hiller wanted to do something special for 'Movember' and he let his mask do the talking.
Movember is a time to both have some fun growing some crazy moustaches as well as raise awareness (and hopefully some money) towards fighting prostate cancer.
A stark contrast to the (some would say) boring black lid Hiller's been wearing the past while, this Movember mask shows each member of the Anaheim team dedicated a photo. Each photo has a nice Sharpie moustache drawn on.
Classic.
What's even cooler is that at the end of the month, Jonas will have the mask auctioned off with all the money going to battle prostate cancer.
Hiller himself makes an appearance on the backplate. And if there was ever a cool goofy pic....this would be it.
There's no question that this unique design and outside the box thinking will definitely lead to some copycat masks down the road. If it can raise even more money - I say go for it.
A slam dunk 5 out of 5 rating. Great concept, great execution, great job of raising awareness.
Now if I could only grow half a Sharpie moustache.
Your turn now to Rate My Mask!!!!
As a bonus video (since I'm in the video mood), here's an interview with Jonas talking about his Movember mask.
