WHO AM I? - Eye Of The Beholder

This one stumped more people than I thought. Cool.

But there was one of you (actually two) who figured it out.

While I'm sure Kevin knew who the sigs belonged to, he was cryptic in his response (probably thinking I would post the comment). I hold off on posting all the guesses for just that reason. Sadly, I can't fully count his picks.

That leaves Jess as the only one to figure out this penmanship puzzle.

Marian Hossa

Probably the easiest of the three. While his signature has 'evolved' over the years (or should I say 'devolved'), it remains probably the most unique autograph in the NHL....maybe of all time.

Yutaka Fukufuji

I got a lot of you with this one.

How many of you remember Yutaka tending goal for the Kings back in 2006? 4 whole games (actually not even whole games.....96 minutes) and 3 losses to his record.

But one of the coolest autographs to get. This Kanji version of his signature was a short print parallel in this Between The Pipes series. A great decision by In The Game.

Chris Mason

This signature was the inspiration for the post. Chris' auto is very blunt and purposeful. I like it. While it's not necessarily a 'scribe', it's definitely not a scribble. I'll call it a 'shishkebab'......it looks like one.

Thanks to all who guessed.

WHO AM I? - One Of A Kind (Times Three)

Have you ever come across a signature that makes you stop and think "I have never seen anything like this before"? And I don't just mean a rare multi-player card or uber-tough-to-find auto.

I'm talking about the type of scribes that are so unique, so memorable, so one-of-a-kind that it almost transcends the signature card itself.

Here are three such examples.

While you might not know the player linked to the signature, these autographs will undoubtedly ingrain themselves in your brain from here on out.

Prepare to always know who these three sigs belong to.

The only thing connecting these autographs....they are truly one-of-a-kind.

WHO AM I? - Must Be Summer

It was a thin response to this current batch of 'signatures' (I use that term loosely). Only two people managed a guess. One went o'fer and the other got one out of three (and he put the wrong name to the autograph).

By judges ruling, 'TheForce' gets the victory. Congrats?

Cam Fowler

What can I say. This is the best of the three. Yikes!

Chris Stewart

Terrible stuff. He's one who has had his signature go down the tubes over the years (not to say it was awesome in the first place). But this looks like there is zero effort and zero care towards his name.

Curtis Brown

That's right......Curtis Brown! How you get that from 'IAN' is beyond me.

Brutal.

They should ban him from having signature cards in any product. Or better yet, do a set called 'crappy-graphs'.

That's the only place this auto belongs.

WHO AM I? - C Is For Crappy

That's good enough for me.

It's rare to see an autograph today that has the appearance of patience, care and personality.

I've come to accept that signatures have just turned into scribbles these days.

Actually, that's not quite true. These three 'gems' might not even constitute a scribble. They're more like 'scribs'.

Too quick to complete the entire word.

Not much there 'eh?

Well, can you conclude who's chicken scratches these connect to? Conclusively?

Let's 'C'.

Should be more than enough of a hint for you.

As always, tell me the names of the three players and the 'C'onnection between the three.

Good luCk!

WHO AM I? - A Trio Of Chokers

Time to reveal the names behind these sloppy signatures. Out of the four guesses I received, only one person got all three players right.

Congrats to Jess for guessing the names, and yes they all have a last name starting with 'B', but the main connection is that they all had pitiful playoff performances.

NOTE: Thanks for your guess Dave. Next time I'll forward you the answers. It'll give you a better shot at getting them right. :)

Ilya Bryzgalov

"Don't send me to Winnipeg"! Don't worry, they wouldn't want you anyways now.

And I actually had Phoenix knocking off the Wings in the first round.

Nicklas Backstrom

Hoo boy. This guy disappeared in the post season. As much as you can place some blame on Ovechkin, it was the sudden dissapearance of Backstrom (and Semin) that led to the Caps demise.

Brian Boucher

In one of the most 'ugly-to-watch' train wrecks in post season goaltending history, Boucher was the guy who crapped the bed the most.

If his 'performance' doesn't get him kicked off that team for next season, then nothing will.

Give Bobrovsky the ball and let him run with it. There may be growing pains, but it would pale in comparison the comedy show the Flyers put on in the playoffs.

Who else would be in the running for 'Choker of the Year' when it comes to the 2011 playoffs?

WHO AM I? - Adios Amigos!

Who Am I???? Should be more like WHERE Am I?

It's been a crazy week at work. There are just not enough hours in the day it seems. That said, I made it a point to watch a couple of my niece's softball games. It was a nice escape from everything else.

Still hoping to get a good review of Between The Pipes in this weekend, and I've had a couple cards for my projects trickle in. But for the most part, it's been a quiet past couple weeks card-wise. Which is ok since the big card show is coming up in a little over a week. The last one of the season.

With that out of the way, here's another group of sigs for you to figure out.

As always, I'm looking for the names of all three players as well as their connection to one another. This time, there are two connections (but the one is sheer coincidence).

Good luck!

WHO AM I? - Congrats Iggy!

Well, this one might have been tougher than I had anticipated. I received 5 submissions and only two of you had the right players.

Big congrats to Puckhound (in addition to Iginla) for being the first to correctly list the three players and note their connection.

All three players are in the 1000 point club, with their newest member, Jarome Iginla, leading the way. In total, there are 77 players who have hit this milestone mark.

Jarome Iginla

Iggy's been on fire lately and his 3-point night last week against St. Louis, capped by a classic Jarome Iginla wrist shot far side, pushed him to the magical mark.

He's currently sitting tied for 6th in league scoring and is one goal away from hitting the 40-goal mark for the fourth time in his career.

Back in November, he was being tagged as 'over-the-hill', 'not the same player' and 'lacking leadership'. To all the 'Flames fans' (and I use that term lightly since we have some doozie bandwagon jumping followers here in Cowtown) and to the media who kept this front and center for so long - How's Iggy doing now?

In my eyes, he's shown all the doubters that he's a clutch player and one of the best leaders in the game. I hope they can find a way into that magical 8 spot in the standings.

Vincent Damphousse

I tricked a couple of people here I think. The 'V' makes people think Lecavalier, but it's another popular Vincent that scribes this sig.

Vinny Damphousse sits with 1205 points in his interesting career. He never hit the 100-point plateau and only scored 40 goals in a season once (he had 40 goals in 1993/94 with the Montreal Canadiens). He was just under a point a game when he hit the 1000 point milestone in October of 2000.

He played with four teams during his 18-year career (remember his one season with Edmonton?) and after the 03/04 season signed with the Colorado Avalanche. He never played with the Avs due to the lockout that cancelled the 2004/05 seasons. One of the many casualties of the lockout.

Phil Housley

I forgot he scored 1000 points. I forgot he played for EIGHT different teams.

He's one of those 'love 'em or hate 'em' type players. I wasn't the biggest fan of his I'll admit, but you have to give him credit for getting to the 1000 point mark.

He actually did it in 9 fewer games than Damphousse and over 100 fewer games than Iginla. I don't know if that is a tell tale for the talent Housley has or if it provides an example of just how much the game has changed since Phil came into the league in 1982.

A 7-time All-Star, Phil is second amongst U.S.-born players with 1232 career points. He is eligible for the Hall Of Fame, but his never winning a Stanley Cup might be one thing that keeps him out.

Iginla better get things movin' if he's going to knock that monkey off his back himself.

WHO AM I? - Milestones

I was watching the game tonight and it gave me inspiration for this 'Who Am I?' post. Tough to say if it'll stump you or not, but I'm throwing out the challenge anyways.

As always, I'm looking to hear who these signatures belong to and what the common theme is between the three.

Good luck! (Oh....and no hints this time). :)

WHO AM I? - Big Three

Thanks to everyone who took a stab at identifying the signatures in the most recent 'Who Am I?' post. There were a lot of you who managed to figure out all three (as well as note the theme).

Congrats to Casey who was the first to chime in with the correct answer. All three of these boys are Hart Trophy winners.

Peter Forsberg

Peter won the Hart in 2002/03 after having one of his best statistical seasons in the league (106 points...only his 95/96 season output was better - and that was the last time he played a full 82 game season in his career). What's most impressive in my opinion is that Peter didn't play the entire year previous due to injury. Imagine what this guy could have done in his career if he was healthy.

Jose Theodore

Jose won the Hart in 2001/02 and is one of only five goalies to ever win the league MVP. It was the closet voting in Hart Trophy history with Jarome Iginla and Jose Theodore tied in overall voting (Theodore won with more first-place votes).

On top of winning the Hart, Theodore took home the Vezina with a 30-24-10 record, 2.11 GAA and .931 save percentage. He was a huge reason why the Habs made it into the playoffs (they got in as an eighth seed in the Eastern Conference) and was a pivotal factor in upsetting the top-ranked Boston Bruins in the first round.

Chris Pronger

Pronger was the 1999/00 Hart Trophy winner and recorded a career-high 62 points and a +52 rating. He beat Art Ross winner Jaromir Jagr by just one point in voting (which was, at the time, the smallest margin of victory in the history of the award).

Pronger was the first (and to this date only) defenceman to win the league MVP since Bobby Orr did it in 1971/72. A pretty impressive feat if you ask me. Even if I'm not a big fan of his.

Thanks again to everyone who took a guess.

WHO AM I? - No Clues This TIme

Well, I've received a few responses for the latest 'Who Am I?' post. And most of you have the right answers (I knew it was too easy).

No clues for those of you looking for one (although I did leave you a clue in the original post).

One thing I'll say......the first guy is not Drew Stafford. Sorry.

Keep the guesses coming!

WHO AM I? - Important Guys

Much thanks for the recent 'audience participation'. It's cool to know that there are people out there who read my blog and seem to enjoy it.

I have a lot of fun putting the posts together.

So instead of YET ANOTHER 'Rate My Mask' (I'll wait a few days for the next one), I've decided to go with a 'Who Am I?'.

This one might be one of the easier ones, but hopefully will still have you digging through your monster boxes or search the internet in hopes of going 3 for 3.

To make things a little tougher.....tell me what these three players have in common.

Good luck everyone!

WHO AM I? - Things Are A Little Clearer

With only two guesses submitted, I am assuming one of two things...either I stumped you all with some outrageously difficult signatures, or I've stumped you all with a vague clue.

Regardless, only 'jeff0120' came the closest getting the first two but missing the third (right idea....wrong player)

The clues....'head scratcher' and 'aren't too sharp' as well as all three being out of the game right now.

You guessed it - all of them have had their bells rung. Concussions are the common thread.

Here are the names that go with the signatures.

Matthew Lombardi

David Perron

Peter Mueller

Better luck next time!

WHO AM I? - I'll Give You A Clue

I seem to be stumping all of you when it comes to the latest installment of Who Am I?

Before I give you all a hint, I'll let 'jeff0120' know that you figured ot the theme and you've got 2 out of 3.

No other solid guesses so far, so here's a clue:

All three players are not playing right now for some reason.

Let's see those guesses!

WHO AM I? - Head Scratcher

Another round anyone? Let's see if you can figure out who these three scribbles belong to.

They may have good reason as to why their autographs aren't too sharp.

Need a clue? I've already given you one.

Remember, all three signers have something in common.

Good luck!

WHO AM I? - Round Two Revealed

Well, I'd say it was a little tougher to land all three autographs this time around.

The clue though did help out the one person to correctly name all of them.

Congratulations Casey! You correctly named all three 'big men'.

Tyler Myers (6'7")

Zdeno Chara (6'9")

Boris Valabik (6'7")
This is the one that stumped most people.

Thanks again for your comment and guesses.

WHO AM I? - Time For A Clue

Well, I've only received 3 responses so far to this round of 'Who Am I?'. That tells me that either it's a tough one.....or everyone has signed off for the holiday season.

So here's a clue...

Each one's the big man on campus.

Good luck.

WHO AM I? - Round Two Anyone?

Well, we had some good response to my first attempt at this - so let's try it again.

Here's the drill (it's pretty simple)...figure out who the three signatures belong to. And remember - there's a theme.

No hints this time. Good luck.

I'll post the comments and the answers in a few days.

WHO AM I? - Answers Revealed

Well, I received guesses from 5 people (thanks for the attempts) and 2 of you identified all three signatures. Way to go Jess and Puckhound!

It was a goalie themed set of sigs (as shown by the background photo in the first autograph...some old school goalie pads).

Gilles Gratton

Antti Niemi

Ryan Miller

Thanks everyone for taking part and I will post some more autos for you to scour over in the near future.

WHO AM I? - Trying Something New

Alright. After spending far too much time trying to find some nice looking autographs for my 'Scribbles & Scribes' segment, I have decided to try something different.

'Who Am I' will consist of three autographs all connected somehow. It could be a very simple theme or something very specific and complex. Regardless, the task is to name the three owners of the autographs.

I have tried to picks graphs that get progressively harder. That said, all three might be a piece of cake....all three might be impossible.

Nevertheless, it's a much easier post to put together - and more fun for us all.

So, here's the first installment. I will give you one clue. If you look closely at the first signature, it will give you a hint to the other two.

Post your guess and I will reveal the answers in a few days.

Good luck!
